On April 20, 2015, the OIG released a document entitled "Practical Guidance for Health Care Governing Boards on Compliance Oversight." http://oig.hhs.gov/newsroom/news-releases/2015/guidance-release2015.asp
A combined effort between regulators, attorneys, and compliance consultants, the document is designed to provide practical guidance on a Board's responsibility to oversee the provider's activities and help build a culture of compliance. The document provides ideas for all providers to use, and recognizes the diversity and abilities of providers, depending on their size and available resources.
We recommend that all health care provider Boards and compliance officers review the document for applicability to their own compliance efforts. If you have any questions regarding the guidance, or would like to discuss how to incorporate the OIG's suggestions into your own Board's operations, please do not hesitate to contact David Marshall at (717) 620-2424.
